RRT operates two trimodal container terminals within Duisburg – RRT Home Terminal and RRT Gateway West. The range of services offered by RRT opens up a variety of individual opportunities. The port of Rotterdam is connected to the Rhineland industrial region by night train services. As an alternative to direct truck runs, barges can transport large numbers of containers on schedule in around 18 hours from Duisburg to Rotterdam and Antwerp.
By pairing water and rail transport, RRT ensures an intelligent exchange of goods flows by "modal merge". This includes triangular transports between Duisburg, Stuttgart and Rotterdam with the R2X train system or links from the western ports with the OWX train system ex Duisburg to the hinterland terminal in Bönen and by OWX2 via Minden to Hamburg and Bremerhaven.
